Willem De Kooning at The Accademia in Vence

Yesterday we visited The Gallerie dell'Accademia, here in Venice.
Thankfully, we had done some research, and saw that there was an exhibition of Willem De Kooning works. De Kooning is maybe Johnny's all time favorite artist. What a special treat to have the chance to see this show.

There were large scale paintings, as well as works on paper and sculptures.

One very happy Artist!

Enjoy...I'm just going to post the photos I took....

One of the works on paper...

These sketches, below...they are ideas pertaining to the sculptures. Finding a way to breakdown the form and recreate it.

This refers to the painting below.
It was one of my favorites.

In one room, there are several small sculptures with the big paintings. A great combination.

One of a few larger sculptures.
This is "The Clam Digger"

Last, but not least...

If you find yourself in Venice....

A Little Work In Venice

It's exhausting walking around Venice all day, so I was really impressed when Johnny said he wanted to set up and do a painting a couple of evenings ago.
It was a lovely evening, and the light was great-

Johnny is painting up there...

It's a perfect spot. A bridge that no one crosses,
for the most part.

I wasn't able to take many pictures, as I left my phone at the apartment and had to go way back and get it. By the time I returned, he was almost done.

And then, a gondola cruised by...

Finished? Maybe..

Maybe not.
We'll see!

Painting Two Bridges In Rome

We spent a night in Rome last week, and Johnny was able to do two paintings while we were there. One on the day we arrived, and one early in the morning before we left the next day.

It was tough both days because it was really windy. The light was great, but keeping everything together in high winds was a chore! I apologize for any windy noise on the following videos.

I will let the photos and videos do the talking here...

A great spot to set up and paint.

That's St. Peter's Basilica in the background.

I love the looseness in this one.

Not quite done, but almost.

We set out early the next morning to beat the wind and crowds...
Another day, another bridge in Rome to paint.

Setting out color on the palette.

Sketching in the basic forms before the actual painting begins...

Not too many folks around, and the sun felt good.

Zeroing in on the subject matter.

A perfect spot to work.

Signed and finished.

It's another gem.

Cleaning up the palette to move on....

Looking forward to showing these works soon!
These paintings will be featured at a show in August at The Carmel Art Association.
We hope to see you there.
